Tournament competitions split into stages. Each stage has its own fixtures and deadline. Treat every stage as a fresh slip, not one long ticket for the whole event.
Groups: upsets happen but rarely turn into 5-4 thrillers. 1-0, 1-1, 2-1 are your friends. Knockouts: score on 90 minutes. Extra time and pens usually do not count.
Tournaments cram games into a few weeks. What happened in a club league four months ago matters less than the last two group games.
Third group matches are odd. Teams through to the next round rotate. Dead rubbers can finish tight and low. Quarter-finals onward, expect fewer goals.
Stage points feed the overall tournament table. A strong group stage gives you buffer; one great knockout week can still overhaul a cautious rival.
Some competitions pay a bonus for calling every result in a stage. If that exists, nail outcomes before you swing for exact scores.
Open the tournament hub, check the active deadline, fill the whole stage in one go if you can. World Cups and multi-city hosts mean kick-offs at awkward local times.
After each stage, look at which picks earned 3, 2, or 1. That beats guessing the same numbers next round without looking back.
